Keeping your head and ears warm in winter is a good way to stay comfy through the colder months. But if you've got longer hair, it can be irritating to try and fit your hair under the beanie - and then comes the inevitable 'hat hair' when you take the beanie off!
The solution? A BUN BEANIE! This clever hat has a hole in the top where you can pull your hair through, keeping your beanie fitting perfectly and your hair unsquashed. Crochet around a hair tie to make the elasticated hole and then continue working the beanie as usual, top down.
There are many bun beanie patterns littering the internet, but not many are as simple and clearly written as this one from Nadine at Hopelessly Devoted Crochet. Get the free pattern instructions via this link. It uses an interesting technique to create the straight ribbing detail by crocheting into the '3rd loop' of each stitch. Gives a great textured effect with minimal effort.
